With all of the departures from Stanford's roster, new head coach Kyle Smith will have to lean as heavily as possible on the college basketball transfer portal to fill his first roster.

According to 247Sports' Luke Chaney, Stanford is one of the dozens of programs that have reached out to former No. 55 overall recruit Carey Booth. The 6-foot-10 power forward played in 33 games for Notre Dame this past season, starting 19 of them. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 39% from the field and also showing the ability to stretch the floor and hit threes.

Aside from Stanford, Booth has also been contacted by Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Florida, and Illinois among other programs.

For Smith, he is currently in the beginning stages of what will be a dramatic rebuild. On top of looking to end a decade-long NCAA Tournament drought, his very first roster is currently expected to lose nine players to the portal and graduation. At most jobs coaches would be able to just pluck a player of their choice from the portal, but transferring to Stanford is still quite a difficult task.

As it stands right now, Stanford has yet to land a new transfer or recruit under Smith, making former walk-on Benny Gealer the most productive returning player on the team.
