Dyaisha Fair Deserves Huge Crowd as she Goes for Fifth Place on NCAA's All-Time Scoring List

In this story:

Syracuse women's basketball star Dyaisha Fair scored 33 points in the Orange's win over Virginia on Sunday. That put her just 26 points from fifth place on the NCAA's all-time scoring list. Fair has eclipsed 26 points in four of her last six games. With history in the making and the next two games in the friendly confines of the JMA Wireless Dome, Fair and the Orange deserve big crowds to show support.

The first game is Thursday night against Duke. The second is against Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon. Fair has only scored less than 26 points over two games once this season. That happened back in November. Odds are very strong she will make history in the Dome, and she deserves a packed crowd while doing so.

Tickets are cheap and parking is free.

Attendance in the Dome for women's games has been at just under 3,000 fans per game. It hit a season high of over 6,000 when the Orange faced Virginia Tech recently. Can she get close to or eclipse 10,000 as she chases history? She and the team more than deserves that.

No player in Syracuse history, men's or women's, eclipsed 3,000 career points until Fair did so earlier this season. It may never happen again. And it's not like this team is not entertaining in its own right either.

Syracuse is 22-4 (12-3) on the season and sits in second place in the ACC, just one game out of first. Not bad for a team picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll. The Orange has won five in a row, has beaten four ranked teams and has only lost once at home. This is a fun team to watch that is having a special season.

Fair is also having a special season beyond the scoring history. She is averaging 22 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and two steals per game while shooting 39% from three point range. Not only does she score at a high clip, but she makes clutch plays down the stretch of close games.

She deserves fan support. The team deserves fan support. Hopefully the Dome crowd reflects that these next two games to witness history.

Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. Shortly thereafter, a network of basketball sites called Coast 2 Coast Hoops asked him to run their Syracuse site. That site was called Nation of Orange, and Mike quickly established it as a go-to for Syracuse fans.  After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available. After one year as the recruiting expert with Cuse Nation, he was named the publisher. Mike oversaw the transition from Scout to 247Sports, and ran the site on that network for years.  Presented with the opportunity to join one of the biggest names in the sports journalism industry, Sports Illustrated, Mike jumped at the chance. All Syracuse was started from scratch by Mike and the Fan Nation team. It has now become a staple for Orange fans of various sports.  Mike has broken news on recruiting, Syracuse basketball and football team information and has established himself as the top recruiting inside in the market.
