Jesse Edwards Makes History in Senior Night Performance vs Wake Forest

Syracuse basketball's star center was spectacular against the Demon Deacons.

Jesse Edwards was the best player on the floor in Syracuse basketball's 72-63 win over Wake Forest Saturday night. His numbers speak for themselves, but so does the historical context. Edwards scored 27 points on 11-15 shooting, grabbed 20 rebounds, had five steals and blocked two shots. Highlights of his performance are in the video above.

Edwards is the only ACC player over the last 25 seasons with at least 20 points, 20 rebounds and five steals in a game. It was also the first 20 point, 20 rebound performance at Syracuse since 2009 when Paul Harris did it in the six overtime game against Connecticut. Edwards did it in regulation. The last time it was done in regulation was in 1990 by Derrick Coleman. In addition, it was just the twelfth time in program history that a player reached the 20 point, 20 rebound mark in a game. It was an incredible outing for the Orange's starting center.

Obviously Syracuse fans are hoping this was not his last game in the Dome, as they want him to return for the 2023-24 campaign. If it was, however, he went out in spectacular fashion.

After finishing the regular season 17-14, Syracuse next has the ACC Tournament. The Orange will face Wake Forest, the team it just beat on senior night, in its opening matchup.
