Syracuse basketball will be without its starting center for the rest of the year.

Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry announced that starting center Naheem McLeod is out for the remainder of the season following surgery on an injured food. The announcement came during Autry's postgame press conference following the Orange's road win at Pittsburgh

It was previously announced prior to the Boston College game that McLeod suffered an injury during practice and was out indefinitely. A couple games later and the prognosis is that indefinitely has turned into season ending.

McLeod started the first 14 games of the season for Syracuse. He was averaging 3.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 14.4 minutes per game.

The 7-4, 265 pound junior transferred into Syracuse this offseason after spending his first two seasons at Florida State. He played sparingly for the Seminoles and elected to enter the portal looking for a more consistent role. After Jesse Edwards elected to transfer to West Virginia amidst the coaching change from Jim Boeheim to Adrian Autry, Syracuse was in the market for an experienced big.

In his absence for the remainder of the season, Maliq Brown should continue to start in the middle. Reserves Peter Carey and Mounir Hima will spell Brown off the bench. Brown is averaging 10.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 0.9 blocks in 24 minutes per game on the season.
