Syracuse Pulls Away in Second Half to Top Georgetown

The Orange gets its second straight win this season.

Syracuse basketball knocked off its longtime rival Georgetown 80-68 to pick up its first true road victory of the season. With the win, the Orange improved to 7-3 (0-1) on the season. Next up, Syracuse stays away from home with a neutral court game against Oregon on Sunday, December 17th.

It was head coach Adrian Autry's first time in this rivalry as head coach (he played in it and coached as an assistant), and it ended up with a Cuse victory.

The first half was a back and forth affair with 11 lead changes in the first 20 minutes. Syracuse appeared to be on the brink of getting some separation, opening up a four point lead a couple of times. However, each time Georgetown would close the gap and retake the lead.

Early in the second half it was more of the same. That is until an 11-2 Syracuse run pushed the advantage to eight. It stayed in the 6-10 range for most of the second half. Every time Georgetown would threaten, Syracuse would hit a big shot. JJ Starling and Quadir Copeland provided some timely scoring during this stretch.

After the Hoyas cut the lead to five with seven minutes to play, the Orange scored seven straight to push the lead to 12. Syracuse would cruise the rest of the way. A monster Quadir Copeland put back dunk with 2:25 left would put the cherry on top.

Judah Mintz led the way with 25 points. JJ Starling added 21 as well including 3-3 from three point range. The two guards combined to go 14-26 from the floor. Copeland would score 14 points on 6-7 shooting.
