In this story:

Syracuse women's basketball picked up a key win for its NCAA Tournament hopes by dominating Miami 77-68 inside the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday. With the win, the Orange improved to 17-11 (8-9) on the season. Next up is the regular season finale at Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Syracuse jumped on Miami early and never looked back. An 8-0 run in the first few minutes of the first quarter gave the Orange a six point lead. That was followed up by an 11-0 spurt at the end of the first quarter and into the beginning of the second to extend the lead to double digits. Syracuse would lead by nine at halftime.

The advantage would swell to as many as 16 in the third and but Miami made a charge at the end of the quarter to trim the lead back to the halftime edge of nine.

The Orange have had nightmarish fourth quarters this season that has prevented wins over quality opponents. It appeared headed that way early in the quarter as Miami scored on its first possession, then forced a five second violation on the ensuing inbounds play. The lead was cut to as little as six before Syracuse regained control.

A quick 8-2 run pushed the advantage back to 12 and the Orange would cruise the rest of the way.

Dyaisha Fair and Georgia Woolley led Syracuse with 14 points, five assists and three steals each. Kennedy Perkins came off the bench to score a career high 13 points on 6-7 shooting. Asia Strong made a surprise return from injury to score 10 points and grab five rebounds.

Miami was led by Destiny Harden, who finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

The Hurricanes dominated points in the paint 52-34, but Syracuse hit nine three pointers compared to just one for Miami.
