The 19th ranked Syracuse women's basketball team jumped out to a big lead on the road at Virginia before holding off the Cavaliers late to earn an 85-79 victory. With the win, the Orange's fifth straight overall and third straight on the road, Syracuse improved to 22-4 (12-3) on the season. Next up is Duke in the JMA Wireless Dome Thursday night. That game tips at 7:00 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast on ACC Network Xtra. 

Dyaisha Fair led Syracuse with 33 points on 13-23 shooting to go along with five assists and three steals. Georgia Woolley also added a season high 26 points on 7-13 shooting with five assists and three rebounds. The two combined to make nine three pointers. 

They were part of an efficient offensive performance for the Orange, which shot 52% overall and 60% from three point range. Kyra Wood and Alaina Rice combined for 19 points and 15 rebounds. 

Syracuse jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game, and never gave up the lead the rest of the way. The Orange led by 14 after the first quarter and 17 at halftime. In the third, however, Virginia made a charge cut the lead to single digits. Syracuse would score the final six points of the quarter to take a 15 point edge into the fourth. 

The Cavs would not go away, cutting the lead to four with 1:32 remaining on a 10-2 run. Fair would hit a jumper, the defense would get a stop and the Orange would make its free throws in the final minute to secure the win.
