Dwight Freeney Snubbed in Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2023 Class

In this story:
The NFL announced the 2023 Hall of Fame class on Thursday, and former Syracuse star Dwight Freeney was not included. Freeney was a finalist in his first year of Hall of Fame eligibility, but did not make the cut this time around. It is only a matter of when, not if, he will be inducted, but this is still a snub nonetheless.
The 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame class is as follows:
Ronde Barber
Don Coryell
Chuck Howley
Joe Klecko
Darrelle Revis
Ken Riley
Zach Thomas
Joe Thomas
Demarcus Ware
Freeney starred at Syracuse in college, setting numerous records and becoming one of the best pass rushers in the country. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the first round of the NFL Draft and for them from 2002 to 2012. Freeney racked up 125.5 sacks during his career, good for 26th all time. He was a three time First Team All-Pro, seven time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl Champion. Freeney had double digit sacks in seven seasons and had at least four forced fumbles in eight seasons.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Freeney was among the 18 players and four coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame's 2023 class. Freeney set the single season sack record with 17.5 in 2001 (currently ranks third) and still is number one in NCAA history in sacks per game (1.61).
Freeney also set the Big East single game sack record with 4.5 against Virginia Tech in 2000, was a First Team All American in 2001 and was a finalist for the Bednarik, Lombardi and Nagurski awards during his senior season. He will become the 10th Syracuse player to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
