Lightning Delay Halts Texas A&M vs. Ole Miss Baseball Game

Texas A&M baseball currently trails 4-3 against Ole Miss as lightning has touched down just outside of Blue Bell Park

COLLEGE STATION -- The Ole Miss Rebels and Texas A&M Aggies are presently in a weather delay entering the bottom of the seventh inning at Blue Bell Park. Ole Miss currently holds the 4-3 lead thanks to an RBI double from Peyton Chatagnier in the sixth.

The Rebels started hot against right-hander Nathan Dettmer thanks to a two-run home run from Jacob Gonzalez at the top of the first inning. The Aggies responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second, and the back-and-forth affair continued in the fourth inning as both teams pushed across one run apiece on solo homers.

The Rebels rattled Dettmer before Chatagnier stepped up to the plate. Evan Aschenbeck entered with two runners in scoring position and struck out the side to hold the damage at one.

Dettmer pitched five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out four. Jack Dougherty, who allowed two home runs, has gone six strong, allowing seven hits and a walk.

Right fielder Brett Minnich notched his first hit of the season on a solo shot to center field in the second inning. Minnich, one of A&M's top hitters in 2022, missed five weeks after suffering a broken thumb in the season-opening win over Seattle University. Jordan Thompson smacked an RBI double to tie the game in the second.

Third baseman Trevor Werner corked a no-doubt 437-foot long ball over center to tie the game at 3 apiece.

According to Texas A&M officials, the Aggies are expected to resume play soon.
