Texas A&M Moves Up In Latest D1Baseball Rankings

The Texas A&M Aggies remain undefeated after back-to-back series sweeps against McNeese and Wagner.

Jim Schlossngale picked up his 900th win as a college baseball coach Sunday in Texas A&M's 25-2 victory over Wagner.

That would have been the biggest news of Monday if not for a boost in the standings.

The Aggies moved up one spot to No. 7 in the latest D1 Baseball rankings following their series sweep over the Seahawks. In seven games, A&M has scored 10 or more runs four times in seven games, run-ruling opponents twice.

“This is a talented team,” Schlossnagle said following Sunday's seven-inning bout.

The arrival of newcomers Braden Montgomery and Gavin Grahovac have been blessings for a revamped offense. Taking control as the permanent leadoff, Grahovac has hit safely in six consecutive games while currently boasting a .400 batting average.

Montgomery, a five-tool transfer and projected first-round pick, kept his hit streak alive and well with a two-run RBI double in the fourth. Since joining the Aggies, Montgomery has posted a .423 average with three home runs and 12 RBI.

Starting pitching remains a staple under new coach Max Wiener. Since seven games, A&M has allowed two runs, both coming off Chris Cortez in Tuesday's 9-3 win over Incarnate Word.

Sophomore left-hander Ryan Prager struck out 18 batters in two outings. Jacksonville State transfer Tanner Jones threw two scoreless innings and struck out three in his debut while lefty Shane Sdao picked up where he left off out of the pen.

The Aggies have outscored opponents 83-8 in seven contests. The top five of A&M's batting are all hitting above .375 and have combined for 44 RBI off 26 hits.

A&M currently ranks fourth among SEC teams in the latest D1Baseball standings. Arkansas (No. 2), LSU (No. 3) and Florida (No. 4) round of the top five alongside No. 1 Wake Forest and No. 5 TCU.

Tennessee (No. 8) and Vanderbilt (No. 9) were listed in the top 10 along with Oregon State (No. 6) and Clemson (No. 10). A&M begins conference play against the Gators on March 15.

The Aggies return to Blue Bell Park Tuesday for a midweek matchup against Lamar at 6 p.m. Schlossnagle announced Sunday at Cortez would get the call.
