The Texas A&M Corps of Cadets has long been associated with the university and the athletics programs.

It is the oldest student organization on campus and was established with the university in 1876. While participation in the Corps of Cadets was at one time mandatory for all who attended A&M, participation in the Corps became voluntary in 1965.

To commemorate the Corps of Cadets, the Aggies baseball team unveiled uniforms paying tribute to the student military organization.

A&M will wear these new Corps of Cadets-themed uniforms on Sunday, the team's final game of their home series with Portland.

“Ever since I came to A&M, I have kind of been enamored by the history and traditions of this place – certainly the Corps being one of them,” A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle said in his press conference Thursday.

“We had a chance to take our team over in the fall and spend an evening going through the evening formations and different things they do. Had dinner with the Corps. Had a chance to get to know the new Commandant (Brig. Gen. Patrick R. Michaelis). Super impressive guy.

“We just wanted to do something to tie our program directly with the history of the Corps. Something fun and neat for the guys, and also neat for the fans as well. So we are excited to break that out on Sunday.”

The unique spirit and traditions that make Texas A&M so special are deeply rooted in the Corps of Cadets experience. For that reason, the Corps has been long regarded as the “Keepers of the Spirit and the Guardians of Tradition” of Aggieland.
