COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M is low at the running back position with the loss of Jashaun Corbin. The team took another hit Wednesday afternoon, this time being permanent.

Running Vernon Jackson's career likely came to an end Wednesday afternoon. The  sophomore was currently a medical redshirt according to A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher.

"Vernon will probably never pay again," Fisher said on his weekly radio show. "That is a shame."

A four-star recruit out of Boling, Texas, Jackson suffered a neck injury during spring practice. Initially expected to be a minor problem, further evaluation saw that perhaps his career would need to come to a close.

Fisher also stated that Jackson would remain a part of the program as a student coach. Wanting him to remain a member of the program, the head coach will now give a second chance to help better his career.

"He's a tremendous human being," Fisher said. "We wanted him to be a part of our team. He's become a student coach and learning all the things you got to be to do that."

A freshman in 2018, Jackson played in 12 games, predominately as a special teams player. He did rush for 40 yards on seven carries in the team's victory over Northwestern State.
