Texas A&M Aggies RB De'Von Achane To Be Placed On Injured Reserve

De'Von Achane will miss the next four games for the Miami Dolphins after suffering a knee injury against the New York Giants.

Former Texas A&M Aggies running back De'Von Achane was running away as an early favorite to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Now, he'll have to overcome a bump in the road on the race to the finish line.

The Miami Dolphins are placing Achane on the injured reserve following Week 5's 31-16 win over the New York Giants. Achane suffered a knee injury in the second half and did not return.

Achane is expected to miss four games but would be eligible to return following Miami's bye week on Nov. 11. The Dolphins (4-1) return to Hard Rock Stadium to take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. EST.

"It's just something we're treating that we'll get more information on," Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said of Achane's status Monday. "He was in and out of the game, a standard rotation. ... He thought he might have something, but he's such a tough kid. It was kind of tough to read, so we needed to evaluate more, and that's what we're doing today."

Drafted No. 84 overall last April, Achane took the NFL by storm starting in Week 3's 70-20 win over the Denver Broncos when he rushed for 203 yards and scored four touchdowns. The former Aggie followed that up with a 101-yard outing against the Buffalo Bills and a 151-yard performance against the Giants.

Through five weeks, Achane's 460 rushing yards rank second in the NFL behind San Francisco 49ers' Christian McCaffery. His 12.1 yards per carry average is nearly 5 yards greater than that of the next closest player this season, New York Giants running back Breece Hall.

The Dolphins still should remain one of the league's better-rushing attacks with the hopeful return of Jeff Wilson. Miami also features Raheem Mostert, who leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns with seven scores.

According to ESPN, the Dolphins recently signed former Indianapolis Colts running back Jake Funk to the practice squad. Funk, a former member of the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl-winning roster, cleared waivers on Monday after being released.

A three-year roleplayer for the Aggies, Achane was a human highlight reel during his time in College Station. As a freshman in 2020, the Houston native broke onto the college football landscape with his 164-yard, two-touchdown performance against North Carolina in the Orange Bowl.

As a senior, Achane rushed for a career-high 1,102 yards and eight touchdowns. In his final game as an Aggie, he ran for a career-best 215 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-23 upset win over then-No. 5 LSU.
