Texas A&M DB Bobby Taylor To Enter Transfer Portal

Bobby Taylor is now the fourth cornerback to leave from Texas A&M's historic 2022 recruitng class.

Tuesday marked an eye for an eye day at Texas A&M. One defensive back entered the building while another departed for greener pastures.

Second-year defensive back Bobby Taylor announced via social media that he would enter the transfer portal following spring practice. Taylor was limited this spring after suffering a wrist injury during offseason workouts. He did not play in the annual Maroon and White game last weekend.

Taylor, a former four-star commit from Katy (Texas), did not play in 2022 after undergoing season-ending surgery on his leg in the offseason. Taylor was one of the first major signees of the 2022 recruiting class to pledge his commitment to A&M and elected to enroll early following his senior year at Katy High School.

Although limited in spring practice, Taylor was expected to compete for reps at safety alongside Jacoby Matthews. Matthews, a fellow former four-star commit from the 2022 class, was arrested by A&M police last week on charges of less than two ounces of marijuana possession. He was later suspended indefinitely by the program and did not participate in Saturday's festivities.

Taylor becomes the fourth cornerback from last year's recruiting class to leave following A&M's 5-7 finish in 2022. Denver Harris, A&M's top defensive back, was suspended indefinetly by the team following a Week 8 loss to South Carolina due to a locker room incident and later transferred to LSU.

Smoke Bouie (Georgia) and Marquis Groves-Killebrew (Louisville) also transferred before the start of offseason workouts.

Despite Taylor's departure, the Aggies should be in good hands for the short-term thanks to the addition of Boston College transfer Josh DeBerry. A two-year starter for the Golden Eagles, DeBerry became a staple in the nickel, garnering All-ACC status in 2022.

In four years with the ACC program, DeBerry registered 158 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 17 pass deflections and four interceptions. He is expected to compete with Bryce Anderson for the starting nickel position or potentially could be moved to the back end at safety opposite Demani Richardson.

The Aggies also added former All-ACC cornerback Tony Grimes (North Carolina) and Sam McCall (Florida State) via the portal before offseason workouts began in January.
