Former Aggie DB Smoke Bouie Leaves Georgia

In this story:
Smoke Bouie only spent one season at Texas A&M before deciding to head back to his home state of Georgia. Now, he's on to Chapter 3 in his two-year college career.
Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart announced Tuesday at SEC media days in Nashville, Tenn., that Bouie was no longer with the program after competing in spring drills.
“Smoke is no longer with our team, it’s been that way for a while,” Smart said during an early morning press session with UGA beat writers Grand Hyatt Hotel. “We kind of mutually agreed to part ways and we wish him nothing but the best.”
A former four-star recruit, the Bainbridge native totaled four tackles and a pass breakup in seven games for the Aggies in 2022. He was one of several high-profile members of the 2022 recruiting class to enter the portal for A&M's 5-7 season.
Initially a Bulldog commit, Smart mentioned how he was pleased with Bouie's progression during spring drills. The 5-11, 180-pound defensive back was expected to compete for starting reps as Georgia's nickel defender, and likely would have carved out a primary role on special teams.
Last season, Bouie was suspended for the Miami game in Week 3 after violating team rules, along with several other freshmen. On May 23, he was a passenger when wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint was arrested for going 90 mph in a 45 mph zone in Athens.
Smart said that while he was disappointed that Bouie -- a player from his hometown -- had a short stay with the team, both sides made the decision to split following spring football.
Bouie is now the second former A&M player to join an SEC program this offseason and not remain on the team before the start of the regular season. Former Fort Bend (Marshall) receiver Chris Marshall committed to Ole Miss after playing in six games for the Aggies, only to be dismissed from the program due to a violation of team rules following spring workouts.
“Chris Marshall has been dismissed from the Ole Miss football program for violation of team rules," a statement read from Ole Miss athletics. "We wish him good luck in his future plans.”
Marshall seemed ready for a breakout season under Rebels coach Lane Kiffin and impressed during the spring game, catching four passes for 89 yards. At A&M, he totaled 11 passes for 108 yards, including a career-high 41 yards in the season opener against Sam Houston State.
