Texas A&M To Kick Off SEC Media Day In 2023

Jimbo Fisher is the leading man in Nashville come July.
The Southeastern Conference released its four-day schedule for its annual SEC Media Days, which will take place at the Grand Hyatt in downtown Nashville, Tenn. from July 17-20. The fifth-year Texas A&M Aggies coach will kick things off as one of the first speakers on Monday morning.
Second-year LSU coach Brian Kelly and Missouri coach Eliah Drinkwitz will join Fisher on Day 1. Defending national champion Georgia coach Kirby Smart will speak on Tuesday, while Alabama coach Nick Saban will meet with the press on Wednesday.
Fisher was one of the two keynote speakers at last year's media days in Atlanta, Ga. due to a budding feud with Saban. Earlier in the offseason, Saban criticized the Aggies' No. 1 recruiting class, stating that the program "bought its players" thanks to the progression of name, image and likeness.
Fisher retaliated hours later, calling out his former boss for his recruiting ethics over the past decade.
“Some people think they are God,” Fisher said of Saban last May. “Go dig into how God did his deal and you may find out a lot about a lot of things you don’t want to know. We build him up to be this czar of football, go dig into his past.
“You can find out anything you want to find out or what he does or how he does it.”
During their stay in the Peach State, both coaches stated that they had made amends behind closed doors and wanted to leave the conversation in the past. Fisher was repeatedly asked about his comments but declined to give a further statement.
"I have great respect for Nick," Fisher said last July. "Unfortunately, our thing went public. Sometimes that happens in this world. Nothing is private anymore, is it?
"We all learn from him. We all will learn, like I say, he will learn, hopefully I learn from things we do and say, and we move on from there."
The Aggies finished 5-7 in 2022, marking their first losing season since 2008. A&M should be turning the corner with a more veteran roster returning on both sides of the football and potential upgrades to the coaching staff. The Aggies fired longtime offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey and hired former Missouri State head coach Bobby Petrino in the offseason.
A&M also should be content at quarterback for the first time since the departure of four-year starter Kellen Mond with Conner Weigman at the helm. Last season in five games, Weigman threw for 896 yards and eight touchdowns, leading the Aggies to a massive 38-23 upset over No. 5 LSU in the season finale.
