'Deebo on Defense': Former NFL QB Has High Praise For Aggies S Antonio Johnson

Aggies' safety Antonio Johnson looks to be a first-round talent, and could be a difference maker in the secondary in the NFL.

Despite a disappointing 2022 season for the Texas A&M Aggies, they still boasted one of the best defenses in college football.

As a unit, they held opponents to 21.2 points per game, which was 25th among all FBS teams, on just 365 yards of total offense. Helping lead the defense was shutdown safety Antonio Johnson, who is now projected to go in the first round of the NFL draft.

While there will be dozens upon dozens mock drafts between now and April, former NFL quarterback Brock Huard believes Johnson is someone the Seahawks should target.

Huard, who now is part of a radio show in Seattle, loves the fit Johnson would bring to the Seahawks defense.

“There’s a kid out of (Texas) A&M that I love … Antonio Johnson, the safety/nickel” Huard said.

“He played some nickel early because they had some safeties. He is a killer. He is a 6-foot-3, ‘I want to just tear you apart’ dude. Kind of a Deebo Samuel on defense. So keep an eye on him.”

Johnson recorded 71 total tackles in his final season as an Aggie, with five tackles for loss and one sack. He also displayed a knack for forcing turnovers with three forced fumbles as well.

No, Johnson doesn't fill a direct area of need for Seattle. However, if they want to continue to bolster the defense, then adding Johnson would be a luxury pick that could pay off greatly for the Seahawks.
