When it's a slow news day ... or month, writers need to be creative. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. We'd like to present a case in which it doesn't.

Every college football fan thinks their team's logo is the best there is. They know the origin, the hidden meanings and the history of the icon that appears on the uniform and/or helmet of their school's football team.

The media institution known as Saturday Down South found the time to rank all 14 SEC programs by their football logo. But perhaps in order to not offend anyone, they went with a tier system.

"Saturday Down South recently ranked its tiers of SEC football logos, and perhaps so as not to stir discourse, they placed each of the 14 programs into either tiers 1, 2, 3 or 4. But naturally, this is the landscape of college football we’re talking about here, which means you can’t put together a rankings list without inciting some inspired pushback."

Aggies fans have long adored the iconic "ATM" that appears on the helmets of the football team that calls Kyle Field home. But outside of College Station and the fanbase, it's not so loved.

Texas A&M's football logo was placed in Tier 4 by SDS.

"The Aggies logo has gone through several iterations throughout its history, with early designs featuring everything from a monogram that looked like a rope tied many times to even a male figure spotlighting as a mascot. Since 1981, the school has stuck to a simpler emblem sporting the letters “A,” “T,” and “M,” with the latest update in 2021 sometimes placing the A, T, and M in the middle of the map of Texas."

Joining the Aggies in Tier 4 are the Missouri Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels, and Vanderbilt Commodores. The following tiers were situated as follows:

Tier 3: Tennessee Volunteers, Georgia Bulldogs, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Alabama Crimson Tide.

Tier 2: Kentucky Wildcats, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Auburn Tigers.

Tier 1: LSU Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Florida Gators.

Regardless of the national or even league perception of the Aggies logo, Texas A&M and its football fans are steeped in tradition. So our response to this list is simply, "Gig 'Em!"
