Longhorns vs. Aggies: College Football's Most-Heated Rivalry?

According to 247Sports, the rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M is still one of the most heated in college football

The Texas Longhorns vs. the Texas A&M Aggies is one of the most storied rivalries in all of college football.

And in just over one year from now, that rivalry is set to be renewed in the SEC, with Texas and Oklahoma making their move from the Big 12 in July of 2024.

With that said the two schools have not met on a football field since 2011, when the Longhorns broke the Aggies' hearts with a last-second Justin Tucker field goal in College Station.

So what will the rivalry actually look like heading into SEC play?

According to 247Sports, it is set to pick up where it left off, coming in at No. 11 on their list of 'most-heated' rivalries in college football.

Expect this matchup to be renewed in the new SEC during the 2024 season and it's long overdue. In fact, the Aggies and Longhorns have not played since 2011 and intentionally avoided one another in bowl settings. In January 2013, a Texas state legislator filed a bill that would require them to play each other every year, but it never came to fruition. There have been failed attempts since. It comes as no surprise Texas A&M was not in favor of Texas joining the SEC, by the way. When the landmark announcement was made, Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork said his university loved "being the only school in the state of Texas in the SEC...we're going to maintain that position." Texas leads the all-time series, 76–37–5.

It is still yet to be determined when and if the Longhorns and Aggies will be permanent rivals, or if they will even be in the same division within the new SEC structure.

However, conventional wisdom would indicate that the SEC would not let that kind of money-making or hype-setting opportunity slip through its fingers.

Either way, it seems that the hate between the two fan bases has not dissipated one bit in the 12-year drought.

And once they do finally meet on the field once again, it should be quite the show.
