'I Can Do That!' Aggies Devon Achane NFL's Next Christian McCaffrey?

Aggies running back Devon Achane is hoping to be drafted into the NFL later this month and had some comments about his game at A&M's Pro Day.

Devon Achane's three-year college career can only be described as a massive success at Texas A&M. No, there wasn't a national championship involved, but the 5-9, 185-pounder ran for 2,376 yards on 369 carries and scored 21 touchdowns in 28 games for the Aggies.

Just as impressive, Achane caught 65 balls for 554 yards and another five touchdowns during that time.

Achane spoke to the media at Texas A&M's Pro Day on Tuesday and said all the right things.

Achane was asked specifically about the role he would play on an NFL team and if it's more important to be a receiver or running back.

"...In this league you can't just run the ball, you have to be able to catch out of the backfield ... thankfully I can catch from the slot or the outside and it was good to show that I can do both."

Then he was asked if he thinks teams consider him a runner or receiver in the NFL. "I have no idea. If it was up to me I'd say they probably look at me both ways."

But maybe Achane's most interesting tidbit came when he was asked what current NFL running back he considers himself to be most similar to.

"I like looking at Christian McCaffrey. I feel like his game is very unique and he's a great route runner and I feel like I can do that as well.

"I feel like I'm able to do a lot, from running back to receiver to special teams. I feel like I bring a lot of energy and I feel like I can put points on the board with every possession that I play. So I feel like I'm different in that way."

Achane looked back fondly on his time with the Aggies and considered his time there "special."

"I had a great career here. Obviously, I hoped I could've done more, but these three years I've been here were a very exciting three years and they went by way too fast. I was just trying to cherish every moment because time went by super quick.

"... I'm just thankful I got the opportunity. I feel like my last year here wasn't as great but still fun, being able to practice with my teammates. That last game at Kyle Field was a very special moment for us and I'm just glad that I could help contribute to that win."

While Achane doesn't have any visits planned with NFL teams at this point, he's hopeful he gets an opportunity to show what he can do at the next level.

And if he's anything close to the next Christian McCaffrey, it won't take long for him to catch on.
