Aggies Receive Second Top-25 Ranking in Sporting News' Post-Spring Poll

In this story:
The Texas A&M Aggies may be on the rise ... again.
In its recent post-spring rankings, Sporting News put the Aggies at No. 20 following a disappointing ending to last season, giving some fans reason to believe in the new-look team headlined by Conner Weigman.
"The Aggies have had 17 players enter the transfer portal since last December," the site wrote. "Last year's 5-7 nightmare season forced Jimbo Fisher to make major changes, [which] started with hiring offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino."
"This is a year where all that recruiting has to pay off. ... The Fisher-Petrino dynamic is the headline, and the schedule is loaded with road pot-holes against Miami, Tennessee and LSU. It will be interesting in College Station."
Texas A&M gave its fans a first look at its new offense during the annual spring game, which saw headlining stars like Conner Weigman and incoming freshman Rueben Owens on offense, backed up by returning safety Demani Richardson among other transfer portal additions like Tony Grimes on defense.
The spring game answered a lot of questions surrounding the team, though some still remain regarding how successful the Aggies could be just two years removed from a No. 4 finish in the final AP rankings.
Fisher's team will start the season against New Mexico, but will quickly be tested in the second year of a home-and-home series against the Miami Hurricanes and later back-to-back matchups against Arkansas, Alabama and Tennessee.
The Aggies still have a long way to go, but fans will find out soon enough how legitimate they are, which could either be a reason to rejoice or a reason to shift back to the "there's always next year" mentality.
Texas A&M kicks off its 2023-24 season against the New Mexico Lobos on Sept. 2.
