Men's Basketball Poll Watching Week 12: TCU Drops Out of Top 25
The TCU Horned Frogs (13-5, 2-3) dropped out of the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll this week and are back to receiving votes, a place they have been most of the season.
Last week, after decisive wins over top ten opponents Oklahoma and Houston, the Frogs debuted in the polls (19/22) for the first time this season. Then after achieving the ranking, they lost an overtime game on the road to Cincinnati 81-77 and then a home game against then-No. 24 Iowa State 73-72.
On Saturday, then-No. 19/22 TCU lost to then-No. 24/20 Iowa State 73-72 in a game in Fort Worth. This week, Iowa State has moved up to No. 23 in the AP Top 25 and No. 18 in the Coaches Poll while TCU dropped out and is receiving votes in both polls.
The Top Ten did not have nearly as much turmoil as it did the week before. Kansas, though, did lose again which did allow for several teams to move up in both polls. UConn, last year's national champion, remains at No. 1 in both polls followed by Purdue, North Carolina, Houston, and Tennessee.
The Big 12 has seven teams in the AP and Coaches polls, plus three more receiving votes in both polls. That's 71% of the conference either ranked or receiving votes. The Big 12 leads the nation in ranked teams for the ninth consecutive week (since Nov. 27).
The Big 12 also has the lowest NET ranking at 47.6. The nearest competition is the Big Ten at 63.1.
