TCU Basketball: Know Your Foe - Oklahoma's Javian McCollum

TCU Men's Basketball plays Oklahoma on Wednesday in the 2nd Round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. In this article I am going to highlight one of Oklahoma's hottest weapons this season.

The TCU Horned Frogs and the Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Kansas City, Missouri to play on Wednesday, March 12. TCU is coming off of a disappointing loss to UCF. Oklahoma is also coming off of a big loss to Texas. TCU has shown they have what it takes to hang and beat some of the best teams in the nation. The game is set for 2 p.m. CT and can be seen on ESPN+. TCU finished the regular season at 9-9, while the Sooners finished at 8-10.

Oklahoma Guard- #2 Javian McCollum

Oklahoma started the season so strong, but like TCU, it has been on a rollercoaster ride. However, I figured I could not go wrong with choosing Javian McCollum. The last time he faced the Horned Frogs, he had a solid game, dropping 17 points. The Sooner guard stands 6'2'' and 160 lbs. The Horned Frogs are no stranger to seeing him, as they defeated Oklahoma earlier in the season 80-71. The Sienna transfer has been great for this team this season. If McCollum can get hot for this team, they can be very dangerous and make a run in this Big 12 Tournament.

McCollum is a crafty shot selector who knows how to create space for himself and others on the court. He does a very nice job balancing out facilitating the ball and scoring, especially down the stretch when his team needs him the most. The experienced Sooner guard truly can drop twenty or hand out a high number of assists to help his team score. When McCollum is on the court, Oklahoma performs better and at a higher level.

The Horned Frogs need to slow him down and use his size to their advantage. However, he can overcome his small frame and score on any defense. If the Frogs want to win this matchup, they must slow down Milos Uzan and Javian McCollum.

Other Players To Watch For:

  • Junior Forward- #14 Jason Moore
    • Leads team in average rebounds (6.6) and blocks (1.1) per game
  • Sophomore Guard- #12 Milos Uzan
    • Leads team in average assists per game (4.4)
  • Sophomore Guard- #3 Otega Oweh
    • Leads team in average steals per game (1.4)
