Mike Miles Jr has declared for the upcoming NBA Draft. Miles, a junior guard from Highland Hills, Texas, and head coach Jamie Dixon met with media members on Wednesday to announce his decision. Miles will forgo any remaining college eligibility.

The junior guard will leave TCU ranked No. 15 in career scoring with 1,297 points after averaging 17.9 points per game this season, the second-most in the Big 12 Conference. His 49.7 percent shooting from the field was a career-best and the third-best in the Big 12, the tops among guards in the conference.

Miles excelled towards the end of the season, averaging 21.8 points over the two games in the Big 12 Championship and two NCAA Tournament games. He was 13-of-27 over that span from the 3-point range for 48.1 percent.

Miles’ family, former coaches, and team members attended the announcement. He thanked them and started his remarks with, “it takes a village to raise a child.”

“A special thank you to Coach Dixon for your time and patience with me,” he said. “And most of all, for taking a chance on a boy from Highland Hills and teaching him how to lead a team. You allow me to do things that kids from my neighborhood only dreamed of.”

Before the Miles portion of the press conference, Dixon started by saying that the time was right for Miles and that he had improved over last year.

“A local kid that had a lot of options, could have gone a lot of places, won in high school, USA basketball, and more, wanted to be close to home, which is why he chose TCU,” said Dixon.

“This is the right time. This feels a lot better than last year. The way he played the end of the year was a high, high level.”

In his three years on the court for the Frogs, Miles played in 83 games, starting in 78 of those. This year, his 17.9 average points per game were higher than the previous two seasons (13.6 and 15.4). This past season, his field goal shooting percentage jumped up to .497. During his career at TCU, he averaged .426. He made 122 of his 365 attempted three-point plays in the three years, .334.

In addition to playing for Dixon at TCU for three years, the duo won the gold medal at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup in the summer of 2021. Dixon was the head coach of the team. USA defeated France 83-81 to win the championship.

Miles became the first Horned Frog to be named a three-time All-Big 12 Conference player. The league’s coaches and the Associated Press named him to the second team this season. Miles was also named NABC All-District 8 and USBWA All-District VII and named to the John R. Wooden Award Final Ballot.

The 2023 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm, will occur on June 22 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
