Andrew Lindsey Drafted By The Miami Marlins

On Monday, former Tennessee Volunteers pitcher Andrew Lindsey was selected by the Miami Marlins in the MLB Draft.

On Monday, Tennessee pitcher Andrew Lindsey was selected in the 5th round at No. 146 overall during the MLB Draft. He was the third Volunteer off the board, following Chase Dollander and Maui Ahuna getting selected.

The Marlins went heavy on pitchers as Lindsey was one of seven pitchers selected through the first two days of picksIn this last season for the Volunteers, Lindsey finished with a 3-3 record and an impressive 2.90 ERA. In 71.1 innings, he gave up just 19 walks with 73 strikeouts.

He mostly came out of the bullpen as he made nine starts in 21 game appearances. So what kind of arm are the Marlins exactly getting? Well, Lindsey is one of those pitchers that has stepped up to improve his game a lot, and it showed during his 2023 season in Knoxville. The Vols right-hander has a nice slider with good breaking action. However, one standout pitch that has become apparent is his ever-improving fastball. With a usual 93-95 mph velocity range, Lindsey has added two mph to that pitch that can top out at 98 mph at times.

Tennessee manager Tony Vitello spoke highly of Lindsey's improved pitching, "He's always been a good guy to have around. But the big-picture thing is he's gone from, 'Yeah, let's give this guy a chance,' to he's a draft pick. He can go get 96, 97. It's a little different look." This development throughout his time at Tennessee speaks volumes to what he will be able to do in the Miami Marlins organization. If he can develop extraordinarily well in college, he can do so in the pros throughout a major league system. Of course, Lindsey's game is not perfect, and he needs development. But with a fastball that can grow and a nasty slider that can be fine-tuned, he can become a nice pitcher in the MLB.
