Tennessee Lands Clemson Transfer Billy Amick From Transfer Portal

On Thursday, the Tennessee volunteers landed Clemson infielder Billy Amick. He joins a laundry lists of college baseball players headed to Knoxville via the portal.

Clemson infielder Billy Amick committed to Tennessee on Thursday following entering the portal this offseason. He joins a list of tons of transfers coming in to play on Rocky Top. He is the fifth transfer to join and 2nd from the ACC, along with NC State catcher Cannon Peebles. He is coming off of his sophomore season, where he had way more appearances at the plate. He had 167 in 2023 compared to 19 in 2022.

His sophomore season was something special at the plate. He led the Tigers in batting average and OPS at .413 and 1.236, respectively. He had 69 hits, led the tea in doubles with 17, and was second on the Clemson lineup in homers with 13. He also knocked in 63 RBI with the best slugging percentage on the Tiger roster with .772. He also had an incredible on-base percentage at .464.

In the Clemson regional in the NCAA tournament, Amick went 3 for 9 (.333) with a home run and five RBIs. The home run and 5 RBI all came in the Tigers' opening win of the tournament against Lipscomb. The infielder ended the season red hot by getting a hit in nine out of his last ten games in Clemson, South Carolina. This hot play at the plate led to him being named a designated hitter on the All-ACC team. It is safe to say that Amick is a highly talented hitter that can fit anywhere into the Tennessee lineup. This addition will do wonders for the Vols, as it is yet another piece towards filling in the puzzle of building a national championship baseball team. Amick can be played in any spot on the Tennessee infield, making him a gadget for manager Tony Vitello and the other of the Volunteer coaching staff.
