Tennessee Adds Missouri Catcher Dalton Bargo From Transfer Portal

The Tennessee Volunteers recently landed catcher Dalton Bargo from the transfer portal. The former Missouri Tiger adds a lot to the squad on Rocky Top.

On Thursday, Tennessee landed yet another transfer from the portal and the Missouri Tigers. Former Missouri catcher Dalton Bargo announced his commitment to the Vols. Bargo had a great season at the plate for Mizzou. He finished with a .279 average and 23 RBI. He was a freshman this past year, so this was his one season in Columbia

The left-handed slugger played exceptionally well in Missouri's sweep against Tennessee this past season. In the three-game series, he went 4 for 10 with 4 RBI. He also scored three runs by himself throughout the weekend. The Tennessee series was not the only one that Bargo went off in. In March, when the Tigers played Texas Southern, the catcher from Omaha, Nebraska, went a combined 4 for seven and had 3 RBI.

He played in two games, including the second half of a doubleheader and the series finale. His effort would help Missouri sweep Texas Southern in a three-game series as they outscored their opponent 31-14 in three games. There is a bigger picture to look at with all of this. Bargo's commitment comes recently following the recent transfer of N.C. State catcher Cannon Peebles. The Volunteers now have two very talented catchers. In particular, two talented catchers with very good bat skills.

This was something for manager Tony Vitello to address in the offseason. Both Tennessee catchers from this last season, Cal Stark and Charlie Taylor, batted .180 and .232, respectively. This left a weakness in the Vols' lineup that needed to be addressed. The addition of Bargo now completes Tennessee in a position of need at catcher. Bargo's commitment to come to Knoxville is the sixth player to do so this offseason. The quest to retool for another national title run continues for the Volunteers.
