Four Vols Earn Preseason All-SEC Honors

The media present at SEC Media Days in Nashville conducted their list of top players heading into the 2023 season with four Tennessee Volunteers included.

The annual SEC Media Days have come and gone, but they have left with a parting gift for discussion - Preseason All-SEC Teams. In addition to making division and overall SEC standings and champion predictions, the media covering SEC Media Days composed three teams of players on offense, defense, and special teams for its preseason All-SEC teams. Among the players listed are four players from Tennessee - Bru McCoy, Joe Milton III, Javontez Spraggins, and Cooper Mays.

McCoy was chosen as one of the wide receivers on the second team. The redshirt senior is expected to help fill the void left by star receivers Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman. Last season, he had 667 and four touchdowns on 52 receptions, but SEC media expect those numbers to jump. Milton was chosen as one the third-team quarterback. He has huge shoes to fill with the departure of Hendon Hooker, but many, including the SEC media, believe he is more than up for it. The fellow redshirt senior played well when he filled in for Hooker last season, improving his touchdown to interception numbers at Tennessee to 12-0.

Spraggins was chosen as one of the offensive linemen on the third team. The senior guard is expected to lead the offensive line after starting every contest at right guard last season. Coming off of a year in which he allowed just two sacks, the expectations are high from Volunteer fans and the SEC media alike. Mays was chosen as the center on the third team. The senior will be right there, along with Spraggins, on the interior of this Tennessee offensive line. He, too, started every game last season, and that chemistry between center and guard should show. He finished the season well, not allowing a sack in the final five contests, and is looking to carry that strong play into 2023.
