How To Watch: Tennessee vs. Alabama

In this story:
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel found his rhythm against Alabama last year. The Vols looked much more composed to begin 2022, but no one took them seriously until they pulled off the unthinkable. Tennessee beat the rival Crimson Tide at home, leading to one of the most iconic field stormings in recent memory.
However, that moment is just that: a moment. As we sit here in 2023, both squads carry different rosters and playstyles than their 2022 counterparts. The on-field product should look different when they take the field in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the annual "Third Saturday in October" rivalry. Last year, these offenses were built on verticality, challenging defenses downfield through the passing game.
Today, those squads are built around run-game and defense. That has been Alabama's calling card over the past few decades, so that development isn't surprising, but no one expected the Vols to have one loss through the midseason mark because of their defensive front. That's where we are, though, and it makes for an interesting matchup. Saturday could be a good, old-fashioned SEC football game; one built around ball control and turnover-free offense. However, these teams also have the talent to turn the game into a shootout. Whatever the scenario, it will be an interesting watch this Saturday.
