NFL Draft Landing Spots For Byron Young
Edge rusher Byron Young was a crucial piece to Tennessee's 2022 Orange Bowl-winning season, which included 11 wins and a bowl win without starting quarterback Hendon Hooker. This was accomplished because of the immense depth that the team had, including Young. Young has been mocked mostly in the third round, with a few second-round grades mixed in. So while he may not hear his name called on the night of April 27, as we may see for Hooker, Jalin Hyatt, and Darnell Wright, he will make himself some money. We take a look at three teams that could use Young's services.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are in a great spot rebuilding this offseason. They hold the number one pick, which will likely be either CJ Stroud or Bryce Young, and have acquired veterans like Miles Sanders, Hayden Hurst, and Adam Thielen this offseason. Edge rusher is a lacking position for them, however, outside of Brian Burns. After going QB in the first, the Panthers could be gunning for the former Vol with their second selection at pick number 39.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are in a similar boat as the Panthers. They will likely select a quarterback with their first-round pick, perhaps Will Levis. After that, however, edge is a position of need for the team, and Young is similar to edge rushers they have had and liked before. The Colts pick at numbers 35 and 79, in the range of where Young could go, so don't be surprised to see Byron in blue and white next season.
Buffalo Bills
While the Bills do have Von Miller, he is coming off of a big injury in the later part of his career, and after him, there isn't much edge depth. The team recently had Young in for a top-30 interview and meeting. Young is nearly identical size-wise to Miller, at 6'2", 250 pounds (Miller is 6'3", 249), and the Bills may see him as a prospect that the future Hall of Famer can mentor.
