The Tennessee Volunteers defeated Kentucky and got back to their winning ways after losing to Alabama last weekend.

In this story:

It wasn't always perfect, but SEC wins hardly are. Kentucky knocked on the door a few times in the second half, but the Vols shut them down and got to a 6-2 start. They are now bowl-eligible for the third consecutive season under head coach Josh Heupel.

The offense played its most well-balanced game of the season. Quarterback Joe Milton III had just three incompletions on the afternoon and made timely plays when it mattered. The run game powered the attack - Jaylen Wright broke a 52-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and Dylan Sampson finished the game in the fourth.

The Wildcats managed a potent offensive attack, marking the second consecutive week that Tennessee has had some difficulty against an SEC offense. However, defensive coordinator Tim Banks still had his group ready to make key plays in critical moments. They made several critical pass breakups on third down and kept Leary moving in the pocket by bringing consistent pressure.

I wrote before the game that this game was a turning point for both teams. Tennessee and Kentucky needed wins to keep their season dreams alive - the Vols aren't perfect, but they are 6-2, which is a huge step for this program in the aftermath of the Hendon Hooker era.
