Season Opener Tickets Available

The Tennessee Volunteers play the Virginia Cavaliers in the season opener, and ticket information has now been released.

Tennessee will face off against the Virginia Cavaliers at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on September 2. Tickets for this neutral-site (kind of) season opener went up online on Tuesday morning.

Using Ticketmaster, which the Nashville Sports Council linked to via a tweet for tickets to the event, the cheapest tickets are $60 before fees. Tickets in the lower bowl on the Tennessee side have gone extremely quickly, with very few still available. Tickets top out at about $250.

Tennessee was originally scheduled to play BYU to open their season, but after a buyout, they are now matched up with Virginia. Virginia and Tennessee have met four prior times, with the Vols leading the all-time series three to one.

The first matchup came in 1927, and the most recent was a Volunteer Sugar Bowl victory on New Year’s Day in 1991. All three of the other matchups came in Knoxville. Last year, the Cavaliers went 3-7 before canceling their last two games against Coastal Carolina and Virginia Tech after the tragic deaths of three of its football players.

Surely, their return to football will be highly emotional, and the school should be expected to honor the victims of the tragedy before kickoff against the Volunteers, the time of which is yet to be determined.
