VFL Josh Richardson Returns To The Miami Heat

Former Tennessee Volunteers guard Josh Richardson inked a deal with the Miami Heat after testing the waters during NBA Free Agency.

One of Tennessee's greatest successes over the past few years has been its NBA alumni. While the Vols haven't reached the pinnacle of college basketball, they continue to churn out productive college players that get drafted and go on to have long NBA careers. NBA Free Agency is an annual testament to that, and a former Vol has officially gotten another contract.

Former Tennessee Volunteers guard Josh Richardson is returning where it began: the Miami Heat. Of course, it all began at the University of Tennessee, but as far as his NBA career goes, he saw the most success in South Beach. Shams Charania reported last week that the veteran wing had signed a two-year deal to return to Miami.

The Heat selected Richardson with the 40th overall pick in 2015, and he spent the first four years of his career with them. In that fourth and final season, he averaged 16.6 points per game, which still stands as a career-high. He has since moved around a bit, going to Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, San Antonio, and New Orleans. He has put together some solid seasons but has yet to reach the levels he played at in Miami. Now, back on the Heat, he looks to find his young form. The Heat are coming off an NBA Finals run that saw several contributors get major contracts this offseason; Richardson could be what they need: another guard with a knack for scoring that can give them productive minutes off the bench.
