What Does The Future Hold For Tobias Harris?

The Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason plans are up in the air, with former Tennessee Volunteers forward Tobias Harris possibly in the forefront.

Tobias Harris moved around a lot at the beginning of his NBA career after one impressive season in Knoxville. He was drafted by the then-Charlotte Bobcats and traded to the Bucks on draft night. In the following years, he was traded midseason to Orlando, Detroit, Los Angeles (Clippers), and Philadelphia.

With all those moves within his first eight seasons, Philadelphia has finally seemed like a somewhat permanent home. He has spent four-plus seasons with the 76ers, including some great regular seasons, but what some would call team underperformances come playoff time. The team around him has changed a bit through the years, with James Harden stepping in for Ben Simmons and seeing him go as quickly as he came in the same season Harris joined the squad. Now entering his fifth full season in Philly, there are question marks about where his future lies.

A video recently went viral of Harris talking about how the “casual” 76ers fans view him, saying they’d trade him for a Crumbl Cookie. He went on to defend himself, talking about the uniqueness of his combination of size, shooting, defensive ability, and durability. Then on Thursday, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the 76ers would pick up Harden’s $35.6 million team option but that they are looking to trade the star guard. With this report, it is clear that the 76ers are switching things up around Joel Embiid, and Harris could be a part of the moves. He is entering the last year of his contract extension and is due just under $40 million this season. We will continue to monitor how Philadelphia handles the VFL forward.
