Vols About to Begin Summer Tour in Europe

The Tennessee Volunteers leave for Europe on Monday for three exhibition games and a 10-day trip.

On Monday, the Tennessee Volunteers basketball team packed their bags for Europe to embark on a 10-day trip. The team has been practicing since around the beginning of June and has had a little over a month to get returners reacclimatized and newcomers (both freshman and transfers) a chance to get an idea of what the Tennessee program is all about.  While in Europe, the Vols will face the U21 Lithuanian team twice this upcoming Friday and Saturday before playing A.S. Stella Azzura the following Monday. The team returns home two days later on that Wednesday after.

The games against the Lithuanian team will be in Florence. While the game against Azzura will be in Rome. A.S. Stella Azzura also finished atop the Serie A2 league with an 8-5 record. According to Rocky Top Insider, the team will also be traveling to many iconic Italian landmarks while not playing hoops overseas. They will see places like the Pantheon, Coliseum, Spanish Steps, etc.

Although it is their first game, it is an exhibition matchup. Their first true game of the regular season is against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 6. The Tennessee Vols played Tennessee Tech to open last season and won that game in a crushing 75-43 happen. Former guard for the Vols Tyreke Key leads in scoring for the Vols with 17 points. He also had four rebounds and just two turnovers in the game. Zakai Zeigler also scored in double figures that game, as he had 12 points. Overall, Tennessee shot 40% from the field and above 30% from three-point range against the Golden Eagles.
