Vols Signee Kennedy Chandler Named as a SI All-American Finalist

Last month, Tennessee Volunteers 2021 Signee Kennedy Chandler was selected to the 2021 McDonald's All-American Game.

Widely regarded as one of the country's best overall prospects, it comes as no surprise Sports Illustrated has named Chandler a finalist for its All-American Team.

"It's been a challenging year across the board, but luckily we've been able to see these guys a significant amount, all things considered," said SI All-American basketball recruiting director Jason Jordan. "It's remarkable how these guys have been able to produce to this level in a season where the rhythm is constantly being thrown off with postponements and cancellations.

"In the end, 15 players broken up over three teams, will be able to say that, even in a pandemic year, they were considered the best of the best."

Chandler has elevated his game even more after transferring to Sunrise Christian (KS.). In February,  Chandler helped take down the No.1 team in the country, Monteverde (Fla.) after hitting a shot at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.

The teams will be announced in April, and Chandler, viewed highly by the outlet, seems to have a legitimate shot to make one of the teams.

His SIAA evaluation states: Chandler puts you in the mind frame of Damian Lillard or Kyrie Irving. Last summer in the Peach Jam title game he dominated despite playing against a team stocked with four elite point guards on the court at the same time. Over the course of one year, Chandler went from unranked to an SI All-American Player of the Year nominee. His exceptional ball-handling ability, elite scoring ability on all three levels and rare awareness on the court promise that he won’t play in college long.

Chandler is currently rated as the seventh-best prospect and No.1 point guard in America, according to the latest SI99 rankings release.

The three SI All-American teams will be released in April.
