Tennessee's 2024 recruiting class is an ever-growing one and something that head coach Josh Heupel has been working hard to maintain progress on while prepping for the 2023 season. They have spent months laying the groundwork and building a foundation and are now searching for blue-chip prospects to round out the class.

It appears the Vols have an opportunity to continue adding depth on the defensive line. Four-star defensive end Amaris Williams, a 6-3 and 270-pound force, recently dropped his top five schools. Tennessee and fellow SEC foes Georgia and Florida made the cut. NC State and Penn State rounded out the list. The Vols already have three defensive line commits in the 2024 class: Kellen Lindstrom, Carson Gentle, and Jeremias Heard. If Tennessee can secure the commitment from Williams, it continues bolstering a group that's awaiting decisions from five-star defensive ends Williams Nwaneri and Kamarion Franklin.

Williams hails from Clinton High School in Clinton, North Carolina, and recently wrapped up his junior season. He is the No. 2 ranked defensive lineman in North Carolina and has racked up 24.5 sacks in the past two seasons. His large frame and twitchiness allow him to wreak havoc in backfields, and he's a guy that could make an immediate impact in Tennessee if he chooses the Vols. He received his offer from Heupel and company in December of 2022, right after he got an offer from NC State, which could signal that the Vols do not want to get thrown onto the back burner. Williams also attended Tennessee's junior day in January. The North Carolina prospect has upcoming visits scheduled with NC State and Florida but not with the Vols at the moment. Georgia entered the fold late, offering Williams earlier this week. If Tennesee can secure Williams's commitment, it could bump them into having a top five-type class of 2024 for now. With other prospects waiting in the wings, it will be interesting to see how early summer plays out for the Vols.
