In this story:

Four-star linebacker Edwin Spillman is one of the top uncommitted defenders in the southeast. The Lipscomb Academy product is the younger brother of Tennessee wide receiver Nate Spillman, establishing an obvious pipeline to the Vols. However, he's entertaining several other major suitors.

Spillman confirmed four official visits on social media. He told On3 that he plans to commit sometime during the summer, hoping to focus on his senior season and defending a state title. The Vols will be third in line to get him on campus but have hosted him more than any other program.

  • Florida State: June 2-4
  • Ohio State: June 9-11
  • Tennessee: June 16-18
  • Georgia: June 23-25

He caught up with Volunteer Country and said that he's looking for "a place that cares about their players, a place that will make their players great, a place that will make me a great man, and will help me reach my goals." He spoke highly of Tennessee's coaching staff; the Vols have been recruiting him since his freshman year of high school and have been more invested than any other program. Sports Illustrated evaluated Spillman in January and came away impressed with his junior film.

"Spillman's aggressive nature is the No. 1 thing that jumps off the tape. He lays the lumber every time he meets the ball carrier, often entering jarring collisions that are technically sound from a tackling standpoint. Spillman is the quarterback of his defense, calling out plays and redirecting teammates to the correct spot. Several highlights begin with him communicating the play call with confused teammates, an encouraging sign for a high school junior. [Tennessee corner commit Kaleb] Beasley has several unique coverage responsibilities at Lipscomb in a complex defense. Everyone on the field must be multiple, with Spillman chief among them."
