Head coach Josh Heupel has invested many resources at the running back position since arriving at Rocky Top. They have three capable contributors in the backfield for the 2023 season but are searching for more in future recruiting classes.

Jordan Marshall and Jerrick Gibson were their top running back priorities in 2024. Gibson is the consensus top back in America and could draw his recruitment out; meanwhile, Marshall ended his recruitment on Tuesday.

Marshall pledged his college services to the Michigan Wolverines and head coach Jim Harbaugh. It was always going to be difficult for Tennessee to beat the allure of Ann Arbor; Marshall is an Ohio native familiar with the Michigan area.

He initially set a July 4 commitment timetable, but the timing felt right for the four-star back. The Michigan coaching staff did an excellent job making him feel welcomed, and he spoke about those relationships with On3.

"It’s amazing. Me and coach Hart are like the same person and I really appreciate that. I am also super close to Coach Clink. We have grown a relationship just with life and I feel comfortable talking to him about anything . They plan to use me in every way they can in the back field . Passing, running, and blocking and whatever else I can do to help my team win."

The Vols will likely continue to recruit Marshall while slightly shifting their focus to other backs, namely Gibson.
