NFL Free Agency began with the new league year this past week, starting on March 15. With this, many NFL players began to find new homes. Two of those players were former Volunteer DBs. Emmanuel Moseley and Cam Sutton landed in Detroit, becoming part of an up-and-coming squad led by Dan Campbell.

Moseley and Sutton were both teammates at Rocky Top from 2014-2016. The pair played in 39 games together, winning 35. The new Lions combined for 45 PBUs and six interceptions in that span.

For Detroit, defensive reinforcements were necessary, especially in the secondary. For a unit that ranked 30th in passing yards allowed and 29th in points allowed, the money needed to be shelled out in the backend. The Lions did exactly that with the decorated former Vols.

Sutton and Moseley will be paid a combined $39,000,000 to hold down the passing attacks of NFC North foes. On top of their skills, Moseley and Sutton will be big mentors for younger guys in Detroit like Jeff Okudah and Jerry Jacobs.

Sutton saw the biggest payday of the two, with a $33,000,000 contract to lure him away from his former home in Pittsburgh, where he spent his entire six year career. The contract was well warranted, with Sutton coming from a three-interception campaign, including 15 PBUs.

Coming off of an injury-riddled season, Moseley was a key part of multiple 49er squads, including Super Bowl and NFC Title Game appearances. The Lions already have a good blueprint on offense with playmakers like Amon-Ra St. Brown and fellow newcomer David Montgomery. Now, on the defensive end, Sutton and Moseley look to help build a foundation on that side of the ball and, hopefully, get to an NFC North crown.
