Omillio Agard Seeing Recruitment Blow Up

Four-star corner Omillio Agard is one of the top defensive backs in America. The Philadelphia native scheduled his official visits and the Tennessee Volunteers got one.

Things move quickly in the recruiting world. You spend the first two years of your high school career building a base, and then things begin to heat up your junior season. Head coaches can contact you directly; some believe it's the most important season of tape.

After your junior year, things only become more intense. Philadelphia corner Omillio Agard is learning that first-hand; Agard narrowed his recruitment to five programs in December and will focus on Tennessee, Clemson, Alabama, Michigan, and Penn State. He has visited Penn State and Clemson since the end of his junior year and scheduled four official visits for this summer.

The four-star defender will see Knoxville and the Vols on the weekend of June 16. He joins other top names like Jerrick Gibson, Daniel Calhoun, Jordan Marshall, Edwin Spillman, Marques Easley, and Travaris Banks. Agard is trending toward Clemson, especially after an excellent visit.

Nonetheless, Tennessee still holds a chance. Every prospect they host that weekend holds interest from other premium programs, and outside of Spillman, none favor the Vols. Seeing the environment together could change their mind, but there's a long way between now and then.

Agard is an excellent prospect on the field. He's undersized at 5-10.5 and 165 pounds, but the two-time state champion still hasn't allowed a touchdown in his high school career. He missed four games to injury as a junior but logged 14 pass deflections and two forced fumbles.

He compensates for his size with strong hand physicality, always engaging with receivers to begin their route. Agard knows he won't beat someone with intangibles at the catch, so he has to alter the route design to make a play. He also has electric foot speed that keeps him in frame with wideouts. When receivers and corners battle at the line of scrimmage, there's an imaginary box they are trying to win. One foot out of that box is leverage, but Agard can shrink space and switch leverage so quickly that the pass catcher doesn't make it out of the box cleanly.
