No. 24 Texas' Bats Go Cold, Lose to No. 17 Texas Tech 7-2: Live Game Log
It was certainly an eventful series opener for the No. 24 Texas Longhorns (8-5, 1-0) against the No. 17 Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-3, 0-1) on Friday evening in Lubbock. Well, eventful for the Longhorns that is.
The Longhorns entered conference play mired in a four-game losing skid and teetering on the edge of the season going off the rails in a big way. A win would go a long way towards grounding themselves and getting back to normal. And win they did.
They came out firing on all cylinders offensively, which might be an understatement when you look at the final box score. Texas put up a staggering 22 runs on 20 hits, including a pair of grand slams and a pair of three-run home runs.
On the mound the Longhorns got a solid outing from starter Lebarron Johnson Jr. as he tossed 4.1 innings and gave up five runs, four of which were earned. Ace Whitehead out of the bullpen, though, was the star of the show as he gave Texas 4.2 innings of three-run baseball to help preserve bullpen arms for Saturday and Sunday.
