The Texas Longhorns (41-20), after a season filled with plenty of ups and downs, now find themselves only two games away from making it back to Omaha for the third straight season.

They easily swept through the Coral Gables Regional as the No. 2 seed, including two straight victories over the hosting Miami Hurricanes. From there, they found themselves in the super regional awaiting their opponent.

Well, that opponent will be no pushover as the Stanford Cardinal rallied to win three straight elimination games and escape being one of the many national seeds to get upset in their own regional.

Now, the Longhorns look to make it back to Omaha and clinch their 39th College World Series berth.

A look at Stanford's tournament so far

The Cardinal enter the Stanford Super Regional as the No. 8 national seed, however that almost didn't happen. Rather, for the second straight season they had to win three straight games in the loser's bracket - including a pair of victories over Texas A&M to win their regional.

Stanford by the numbers:

Record: 42-17

Runs scored: 509

Runs allowed: 386

Team Avg.: .318

Team ERA: 5.83

Stanford wins this super regional if...

It can outslug the Longhorns and knock out their starters as early in the game as possible. Lucas Gordon and Lebarron Johnson Jr. were lights out in the Coral Gables Regional, something the Cardinal can not afford to have happen. Unlike the regional, two losses sends you home. If they can get into the Texas bullpen then the Cardinal have a good chance of making it back to Omaha once again.

Texas wins this super regional if...

It sees Gordon and Johnson slow down the Stanford offense enough for the Longhorns' bats to go to work. The Longhorns will get their share of runs, especially against a Cardinal pitching staff that has been inconsistent. If the Longhorns' star pitching duo can match their performances from last weekend, then Texas will like its chances to leave Stanford and make it to Omaha for the third straight season.
