Game Date For Inaugural SEC Matchup Between Texas Longhorns And Georgia Bulldogs Revealed

In this story:
While everyone in college football is well aware that Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC in 2024, there were still scheduling questions surrounding the sport-shifting move that caused the landscape of conferences to change forever.
On Monday, we received some clarity on the matter as a report by 247Sports' Chip Brown revealed that the Longhorns will not only continue their rivalry with Oklahoma but will be playing against other long-time rivals Texas A&M and Arkansas.
Both of those games will be on the road in 2024, but one intriguing matchup that will take place in Austin is their first meeting as members of the SEC with Georgia. According to Brown, that game will be one of their home games, which is quite the draw considering the home-field advantage the Bulldogs have. It will take place on October 19
A meeting that SEC commissioner Greg Sankey was likely hinting at among many others when he discussed the possibility of new rivalries with the conference expanding.
"During this time of change, our fans will continue to enjoy traditional rivalries and begin to see new matchups presented by the addition of two historically successful football programs to the SEC," league commissioner Greg Sankey said back in June.
The Longhorns may have one of the toughest schedules in the country next year, as they have early season matchups against in-state foe UTSA and a road game at Michigan.
They certainly will have quite the case for the top seed in the College Football Playoff should they have a season similar to the one they are having this season.
