Lone Star Showdown Renewal at Kyle Field? 'News to Me' Says Longhorns AD Del Conte

While the Longhorns and Aggies are set to renew their rivalry, the question of where the first game will be played must be answered.

When Texas and Texas A&M renew the Lone Star Showdown in Texas' first year in the SEC there is little doubt it will be one of the most anticipated games of the season.

After all, when you reinstate one of the most heated rivalries in college sports you're bound to draw plenty of viewers. However, while the renewal of the rivalry is bound to happen, where the first game takes place is the next question to be answered.

If you asked Aggies' athletic director Ross Bjork, he believes the first game will take place at Kyle Field.

“Just because of everything that’s transpired, and that’s something that we’ve expressed to the SEC, and I guess we’ll just leave it at that," Bjork said. “Let’s just say that is a very, very firm position from our standpoint.”

Of course, just because Texas A&M requested that the first game take place in College Station does not automatically mean that it will. While Bjork believes that is the case, Longhorns' athletic director Chris Del Conte denied those claims.

“That’s all news to me. I haven’t heard that from anybody,” Del Conte said. “I read it somewhere, I just haven’t heard it from the powers that be. As far as I know, that’s just internet fodder.”

The last time the two teams played each other, way back in 2011, the game was held at Kyle Field. Whether or not that holds any precedence towards the renewal of the rivalry, however, is yet to be seen.

However, what can be said for sure regardless of the initial venue - the renewal of the Lone Star Showdown will be must-see television.
