Texas Players, Coaches Raising Money For Those Affected by COVID-19

Texas players and coaches have been doing their part to help those in need

During this coronavirus pandemic, Texas football quarterback Sam Elhinger, started a COVID-19 Relief Fund raising over $42,000 already. Ehlinger stated that the money will be going to the Boys & Girls Club of America, the Central Texas Food Bank, Austin Pets Alive, and more.

The rising senior quarterback released a statement on twitter, urging fans to donate and reach a hefty $1,000,000 goal. He also shouted out Clemson Tigers starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, for setting a great example and paving the way for people all over the globe to make a difference.

Texas football head coach Tom Herman along with his wife, Michelle, have also taken charge and generously donated $10,000 to the Central Texas Food Bank. Horns247 confirmed with Texas officials that the generous donation will provide 40,000 meals for Central Texans who are dependent on the Central Texas Food Bank throughout this pandemic.

The president of the Central Texas Food Bank, Derrick Chubbs, responded to the amazing gesture on Twitter, thanking the Herman family for their generous contribution.

During Monday's teleconference with the local media, Herman had the following statement. "Michelle and I were very specific in targeting the places that we were going to donate to. We really wanted to get something out there that's on the front lines, and not a long-term project. The food bank, I mean that's 40,000 meals, boom, right. And we really targeted the vulnerable populations in this, like Meals on Wheels delivering food to the elderly and homebound, and obviously the homeless shelter stuff like that. It just makes you want to give so much more when you see your community and the people in it suffering."
