'20 Van Fillinger (DE) - WATCH - Highlights and Evaluation

UPDATE: Van Decommits from Texas

UPDATE: Van Decommits from Texas

Van Fillinger is the ninth commit for the Texas class of 2020. Texas D-line coach Oscar Giles will be coaching this super fast-twitch strong-side stud for the next few years.

Giles previously helped (at the time) true freshman Ed Oliver rack up 19.5 TFL's in 2016, and has coached success into countless defensive lines at schools all over the country.

Strengths

Fillinger, despite playing a majority of his snaps in high school coming at the 3 technique, his speed is evident from the first play of his highlight tape. Fillinger is a straight predator standing tall at 6'4, 250 lbs. He's extremely effective as a disruptive run-stopper, using his violent punch to gain separation.

One of his best games came against perennial powerhouse De La Salle (CA). He was on some serious JJ Watt vibes, peep the 1:02 mark of his highlight tape.

His fast-twitch motor makes slower guards looks silly. I can't wait to see what he can do out in the 7-technique or wide 9 at Texas

His work in the backfield earned him an astounding 71 tackles and 5 sacks during his junior season. When's the last time you heard of a 70-tackle season from the defensive tackle position?

Texas nabs this Utah gem to add to their 2nd-in-conference ranked 2020 recruiting class. UT stands behind the Sooners (247) and the Jayhawks (Rivals) in rankings, and are still lacking that signature 5-star recruit that their home state produces in abundance.
