Texas football: Odds and ends from a 48-14 road win in H-town

Here are a few notes from Texas' win over Rice
Malcolm Epps got his first career start
The redshirt freshman wide receiver got the nod with Collin Johnson sitting out to rest a tweaked hamstring. He played well, catching four passes for for 53 yards - a new career high. The Longhorns aren't going to run a ton of meaningful plays without Johnson if he is healthy, but its' always good to know there's a viable option should those situations arise.
John Burt got his first catch of the year
Burt has been listed as a co-No. 1 on the depth chart with Brennan Eagles, but it's been pretty obvious which player is getting more time on the field so far. Still, Burt is a high-upside player who might be the fastest guy on the roster. He caught one pass for 18 yards.
Three Longhorns got their first career sacks
Defensive lineman Keondre Coburn, linebacker Ayodele Adeoye and linebacker Juwan Mitchell all recorded their first career sacks. Coburn continues to develop and could very well be a future all-conference player up front. Adoeye had complete command of the defense in the middle, attacking downhill and zeroing in on Rice ball carriers. Mitchell - a highly-touted JUCO recruit - made a solid campaign for more playing time in his first career start.
Welcome back Daniel Young
After a ton of bad news on the injury front Texas finally got some good tidings with the return of Daniel Young. The veteran running back got four carries for 16 yards, including a 13-yard rush. While he didn't blow anyone away, he not only knows the offense and pass protections, but ads invaluable depth as the Longhorns head toward conference play.
D'Shawn Jamison's TD was first KO return for touchdown since 2012
After a late Rice touchdown made the score 41-13 inside of two minutes to go in the game, D'Shawn Jamison took the ensuing kickoff to the house. It not only put a nice exclamation point on the Texas victory, but it was the first kickoff return for a score for the Longhorns since 2012. D.J. Moore was the last guy to return a kickoff for a touchdown against Oklahoma State.
