Texas WR AD Mitchell Brings Championship Spark to Austin: 'We Gonna Do Something'

Incredibly, Texas Longhorns receiver AD Mitchell caught a touchdown in all four of the College Football Playoff games that he played in while at Georgia.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Longhorns receiver Adonai "AD" Mitchell knows a thing or two about winning a national championship.

He won two titles during his time with the Georgia Bulldogs, and despite some injury issues, came up clutch on the big stage when his team needed it most. Four of Mitchell's 21 career games at Georgia came in the College Football Playoff. Incredibly, he caught a touchdown in all four of those contests on just eight total receptions.

This makes his journey back to his home state this season a notable one, as he's arriving to Austin ahead of campaign full of major expectations for the Longhorns. Fittingly, as the only player on the roster with championship experience, he was asked about what makes a program successful in that regard.

Mitchell said that building a championship programs starts with non-football stuff off the field.

"Starting it off with connection," he said. "The guys especially over fall camp, we got a chance to bond, get a lot closer then where we were back in the spring. So you know, I feel like everything is really coming together."

Mitchell has already been building that connection with some of the offense's biggest weapons like receiver Xavier Worthy and tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders. He had tons to say about his new teammates.

“JT, he’s an unselfish player and a leader,” Mitchell said. “He’s not just a one-dimensional tight end that’ll just catch the ball. He’ll put his face and hands on somebody. That definitely sets him apart. Just the leadership, every time I’m on the field with him, he always demands excellence.”

But Mitchell and Worthy have seemed to develop a closer relationship than most. While speaking about each other, the two of them couldn't help but laugh.

“That boy different,” Mitchell said while smiling. “The way he can turn it from zero to 100 in two steps. There aren’t guys who can do that. I personally can’t. He’s special.”

Of course, words about good a relationship is don't mean much until there's proof of chemistry on the field. But the way Mitchell spoke certainly means something.

"Getting guys closer together, you know, I feel like the more closer together then the more we'll buy in collectively," Mitchell said. "That's definitely been strong."

The Longhorns begin their season on Sept. 2 against Rice. If Mitchell truly has brought that spark and chemistry to Austin, the first chance to see it will be on that Saturday afternoon at DKR.

"We gonna do something," Mitchell said.
