Longhorns Transfer WR Brenen Thompson Commits to Oklahoma

In this story:
AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns are deep at receiver, and lost speedy pass-catcher Brenen Thompson to the transfer portal as a result when his departure was announced on April 12.
But the Longhorns won't be able to forget about Thompson for a while, as he's committed to the Oklahoma Sooners, per an announcement Monday from On3.
“It’s home, it feels like me,” Thompson told On3. “I’m able to live and play ball how I want to.”

Thompson will now play the Longhorns at least once a year while both OU and Texas make the move to the SEC.
A two-sport star at UT in track and field and football, Thompson was a four-star recruit in a talented Texas 2022 recruiting class that included guys like quarterback Maalik Murphy, cornerback Terrance Brooks, offensive tackle Kelvin Banks and offensive lineman Devon Campbell.
Headed into his freshman year last season, Thompson was right at the top of the mix with these highly-touted recruits. But after appearing in nine games and recording just one catch for 32 yards in the 41-34 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Oct. 22, he apparently wants a fresh start.
Had Thompson remained at Texas, he'd likely be buried on the depth chart. The receiving room is deep with guys like Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington, Johntay Cook, A.D. Mitchell, Isaiah Neyor, Casey Cain and DeAndre Moore Jr.
With all these mouths to feed, it's understandable why Thompson would want to play elsewhere. But he'll now get an opportunity for more action - as well as some slight revenge against his former team - next season with the Sooners.
